Passing of a Free State Creative Industry Legend
Bloemfontein, South Africa – 25 May 2021. PACOFS is saddened to report the passing of our colleague and one of the most formidable performing artists to ever grace the Sand du Plessis Theatre stage – Mr Seretse Leeuw, affectionately referred to as Ntate Seretse.
Ntate Seretse’s artistic eloquence has undoubtedly left a lasting impression on those who have had the pleasure of watching him perform over the years. His presence on and off the stage was largely characterised by his spirited personality and his inspiring reverence for professionalism in performing arts.
A dedicated teacher at heart, he nurtured and fostered the growth of numerous performing artists in the Free State and found great joy in scouting, coaching and mentoring new artistic talent, for which he was momentously respected and admired. He devoted over 30 years of service to PACOFS as the Audience Development Manager and was unreservedly committed to being a catalyst for driving community interest in the arts.
Our sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends during this time of bereavement. He will be dearly missed.
“A theatre, a literature, an artistic expression that does not speak for its own time has no relevance.”
“The audience goes to the theater to see the good performance of good plays, and not the play itself.”
“The public loves only themselves. Our love for you is subject to the love of the public.”
“A good actor can perfectly play the most stupid things and thereby strengthen their harmful influence.”
