Royal Moscow Ballet:
Produced by: Edouard Maisnikov
Art Director: Anatoly Emelianov
Date: 12 March 2019
The Royal Moscow Ballet will be in Bloemfontein for one performance only, on 12 March 2019 at the Sand du Plessis Theatre in Bloemfontein. The producer, Edouard Maisnikov, has outdone himself with two exhilarating acts for the evening.
The first act is “Romeo & Juliet” – a one act ballet composed by the Russian Composer, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Romeo and Juliet is an orchestral work composed by Tchaikovsky. It is styled in an Overture-Fantasy, and is based on Shakespeare’s play by the same name. The work is based on three main strands of the Shakespeare story. The first strand is the introduction to the saintly Friar Laurence. The second strand is in B Minor and represents the Capulets and Montagues and the third strand is the love theme, passionate and yearning in character but always with an underlying current of anxiety.
Carmina Burana by Carl Orf promises has the crowds breathless. It is based on “The Wheel of Fortune” (O Fortuna)
The two acts are different to what Edouard has brought South African audiences in the past..
