PACOFS CELEBRATES HERITAGE MONTH 2026 THROUGH MUSIC, CULTURE AND STORYTELLING
Bloemfontein – 1 September 2026 – The Performing Arts Centre of the Free State (PACOFS) is celebrating Heritage Month 2026 with a vibrant September programme that brings together learners, families, schools, artists and audiences through music, poetry, traditional dance, drama, storytelling and live performance.
The programme reflects the important role of the performing arts in preserving South Africa’s diverse heritage while creating opportunities for communities and young people to experience and celebrate culture.

THAHABOLLA SETJHABA HERITAGE FESTIVAL 2026: 5 September | André Huguenet Theatre
The Thahabolla Setjhaba Heritage Festival 2026 celebrates the heritage of Thahabolla and the Free State, bringing together more than 580 learners, families, schools and artists. The festival features traditional dance, choir, live music, poetry, drama and storytelling.

SENTIMENTAL CINEMA 2 – THE RHAPSODY ORCHESTRA; 5 September | Sand du Plessis Theatre
Sentimental Cinema 2 by The Rhapsody Orchestra has already generated strong audience demand, with one performance selling out within two weeks of bookings opening. An additional 10:00 performance was added on the same day to accommodate the demand.
3RD ANNUAL FREE STATE POETRY VETERAN: 12 September | Down Stage
The 3rd Annual Free State Poetry Veteran celebrates established poetic voices and the power of spoken word, storytelling and literary expression, creating a platform for veteran poets to share their experiences and connect generations.

OLD MUTUAL MAGWIJO MUSIC FESTIVAL 2026: 23 September | Andre Huguenet Theatre
The Old Mutual Magwijo Music Festival 2026 is a heritage music concert aimed at preserving and celebrating South Africa’s indigenous music traditions, while promoting social cohesion, cultural pride and artistic excellence among learners from Mangaung schools.
NATANIËL: SOOIBRAND; 22–23 September | 19:00 | Sand du Plessis Theatre
Adding to the month’s celebration is Nataniel: Sooibrand, a theatrical production combining music, storytelling and humour. The production celebrates the richness of language and South African storytelling, offering audiences a distinctive live theatre experience.
PACOFS invites the public to celebrate Heritage Month by experiencing live performance and supporting the artists, learners and communities who continue to keep South Africa’s heritage alive. This Heritage Month, PACOFS celebrates the stories we tell, the music we create, the traditions we preserve and the culture we pass on to future generations.
