A Man without knowledge of himself and his heritage is like a tree without roots.” Rooted within is a contemporary dance work that reflects self-doubt and self-acceptance. It tells the story of two people’s childhood journey and how growing up they never felt like they belonged. The question is, where does self-doubt stem from? It’s the journey in search of answers and how they inherited these labels and scars. Why are most males of colour always broken? Why don’t they ever deal with their issues? Are they scared to talk about their feelings? Will society see them as weak if they do? “Rooted Within” is a performance work in search of love, joy, forgiveness, and self-acceptance.
