As part of heritage month celebrations PACOFS brings you Buhlendalo featuring Tankiso Mamabolo.
Philanthropist, Storytellers, Healer, Visionary, and a Chosen vessel from the gods- are a few words to describe the vocal prowess that is Buhlebendalo. Born and raised in the dusty yet prominent streets of Soweto, she is no stranger to the stage. She has embarked on her Solo Career after serving as a singer-songwriter and producer with her previous group The Soil. Her enchanting voice has taken her across Europe, Asia, North and South America and circled back to the land of her Forefathers to pay homage to the originators of the music embedded in her veins.
Buhlebendalo’s debut album Chosi is a much-needed conversation starter for those seeking an understanding of self through spirituality. A transcendent work of art scribed by her higherself. She has fully embraced her calling and uses her music to accompany souls from different realms. The stage is Buhlebendalo’s safest place, when her feet start tapping to the beat of the drum, it is as though the heavens are clapping in jubilation. She has formulated an all-female Band to accompany the messaging in her music. Buhlebendalo has healing powers that need no introduction nor translation because it shoots straight to the soul awakening the spirit of Ntu.
Right in the heart of Heritage Month, Buhle reminds us how it feels like to go back to the origins of Ntu. Moving musical that has never been seen before. This feels like a full circle for this Buhlebendalo because some of the roots stem from the Free state. Her ancient, haunting sounds bring us a prayer we did not know we needed.
In addition to her performance, the event will feature Tankiso Mamabolo who is set to perform her latest work in what will undoubtedly be a full circle moment for the ages. About the album Written over a three year period and released on the 18th of August 2023, Thapo is a sonic experiment on the deliberate act of falling as life affirmation, healing and protest through music. Thapo in seSotho refers to a rope but it is also used to describe the grieving process widows and mothers often have to go through after suffering the loss of a husband or a child. It is meant to be the physical manifestation of the grief but it is also a burden, a way to publicly show that a woman is in mourning.
With this album, Tankiso subverts the meaning and chooses to look at mourning and grief as a celebration of life. She asks the question, “What happens when women grieve what we want to, the way we want to? When we don’t hide our sorrow in service of tradition or societal expectations but instead become ungovernable and relentless in our pursuit of joy through finding our own way through grief?” The performance promises a range of genres from Rock and indie to reggae and gospel with themes that touch on love, rebellion and loss.
The show is scheduled to perform this coming Saturday 21 September and will commence at 6pm, with tickets starting from R150 early birds to R200 general tickets, they are available for purchase at PACOFS booking office, Webtickets and Pick n Pay.
Don’t miss out on this extraordinary evening.
